 Frilled Shark                                                                    Midnight Zone

Picture

Next up is the Frilled Shark.  It has a rather snake like appearance and is colored in a light shade of gray.  It has a mouth full of hooked teeth that let prey in but not out.  This amazing monstrosity has somehow survived the tests of time and looks the same as it did a million years ago, being one of the few
creatures that evolution passed by.  Frilled Shark males have clasps on their
stomach that transfer sperm to the females.  Frilled Sharks are ovoviviparous,
meaning that the eggs hatch in their mother's uterus.  Whether parental care is
exercised with these deep sea fish is unknown.....probably not.
