Last but not least is the Lantern fish. These small (5-19 inches), luminescent fish are colored a silvery shade on its sides, has a black line on its back, large eyes, and rows of light-producing organs on the bottom of its body. These bio-luminescent organs light up when the lanternfish swims. The lights attract other fish to it including its prey. The whole school of lanternfish line up in a slab formation and swim up to the sunlight zone in the middle of the night. They eat zoo plankton and the tiny plants that grow there. Lantern fish lay from 100 to 2,000 eggs. After the female lays her eggs she leaves them and goes away to die. by Rane
