The Great White Killer Twilight Zone
“Aaaagghhh!
Shark!”, I heard my friend scream as we were swimming by the shore. “It’s a
great white shark”. Once we got to the shore safely, I explained to my friend
that Great white sharks are not harmful to humans.
Great white sharks are mammals, and they are mainly known for their size, which can
reach up to seven feet in length, and 5,000 lb. This shark reaches its maturity around
15 years of age, and has a life span of 30 years. The largest known great white shark grew in length of 6 feet. They have big strong bodies that are shaped like a torpedo. The white part of the body is only on the bottom.
They have serrated, triangle shaped teeth. They live in waters between 12 and 24 Celsius, in depths of 1280 meters. They can be found from California to Alaska in the US, they’re also found on the east coast of the U.S.
They have a sharp sense of smell to detect the prey from several kilometers away. They even have an organ that helps them know how far away their prey is. They also can sense a single drop of blood from a distance of 5 kilometers or more away. They eat marine animals such as fish or even some times seabirds. This shark is ranked top for having most attacks on humans, but in reality humans are not preferred prey to the great white shark, versus to seals.
In conclusion, I’d say that great white sharks are actually endangered because of human activities. Even though these sharks are predators, they are only curios when a human is in the water. They often try to do a bite and release with humans. Even though they are predators, they hate eating humans.
